Adventure Race Training

Whether training for a Mountain Marathon or Adventure Race, Contour’s location – on the edge of the Black Mountains – allows easy access to an area ideally suited for the mountain athlete. The rolling but mountainous nature of the terrain ensures a physical as well as navigational challenge, with the environment being just as demanding as that encountered in Scotland or North Wales. Contour's staff have participated in Adventure and Endurance events held in the UK and abroad and have the experience and know-how to ensure that you will be as prepared as you can be for your event.  And because all our expertise is in-house, we act as a one-stop-shop with the ability to arrange bespoke programmes, for individuals or teams, to meet your training needs.  If you just require a half or full day session then visit our Personal Guiding page for more information on prices and discounts.

Contour Can Provide

What's available at the moment...

Contour can plan and run a training weekend to enable you to polish and refine exisitng skills and, should your future event demand it, master new ones.  For example we could devise a week or weekend schedule that includes: running, canoe/kayak, mountain biking and treking with changing stations in-between each section, mirroring the race itself.  If you have limited training time then we could plan a 24 hour package encompassing as many of the event's disciplines as you wish.  Should you require instruction and practice of a specific skill for race certification then appropriate training can be included at your request, allowing you to train and learn and gain the most from your time with us.

Establish what works best for you by loaning Contour's lightweight tents and equipment to trial and compare prior to the event.

Tuition in navigation and campcraft  to cater for all weather conditions by day and night.  Skills to survive and navigate in all types of terrain and environment, be it temperate, jungle, desert, bush or mountain.

Event specific instruction and coaching leading to race certification for climbing and abseiling.

Instruction, coaching and set-up and trail-side repair for mountain biking.

Instruction and coaching for canoeing and kayaking to develop and improve paddling technique which, in turn, will lead to improved times and reduce fatigue.  Race certification is also possible.

Use of safety equipment (SPOT Personal Tracker) & runner's safety cover whilst on the hill. The SPOT system provides the runner with a reliable tested method for requesting help. In addition, SPOT's tracklog and map can be used to review the day's training and performance.

Contour can arrange and co-ordinate transport for teams wishing to train independently.

Contour can also provide a pick-up and drop-off service at mainline rail stations (Please ring or email for advice on nearest mainline stations).

Advice on where to stay and where to eat while training with Contour. Should you require, Contour also has a three-bedroomed cottage, equipped and furnished with the mountain athlete in mind,  for you to use as a base when training in the Brecon Beacons and Black Mountains.

Weekend packages can be as little as £180 per person,  Half day session £75 and £120 for a full day's training and support and use of equipment were required
