Cuillin Ridge

The UK's most sought after and demanding mountaineering expedition and undoubtedly the finest outing of its kind in the British Isles involving over 4000 metres of ascent. To complete the traverse requires a high level of physical fitness along with good all-round mountaineering skills encompassing the ability to scramble in exposed situations and being able to climb up to VD standard. Due to the popularity of our Cuillin package Contour is planning to undertake three traverses in late May/June 2018 as well as an additional traverse during September. Each traverse will come as a five day package, allowing for a day for familiarisation and two days to negotiate the ridge. What you will need

Prior to undertaking the traverse you will have needed to attended the Advanced Scrambling Course as pre-training or be able to demonstrate suitable experience prior to being accepted for a Cuillin Traverse.


See our Equipment and Packing List for advice on what you need for the traverse.  Note that leightweight items of equipment such as bivvi and sleeping bags can be provided if required.

Accommodation and Transport

Tented accommodation at the Sligachan Campsite, all meals included, if you opt to stay under canvas. Should you wish to make your own arrangements then we can recommend accommodation at the Sligachan Hotel  which comes in the form of bunkhouse or B&B at the hotel (01478650204 &


Transport to and from Fort William can organised by prior arrangement.


A typical five day package would be run as follows:

Day One - Introduction and familiarisation out spent on the ridge 

Day Two - On the ridge for additional familiarisation and stock the bivvi site

Day Three - Begin the traverse and overnight bivvi, expect 12-16 hour day scrambling

Day Four - Complete the traverse

Day Five - Retrieve equipment from the bivvi site/reserve day
