Cuillin Ridge Traverse | Skye & Cuillin Ridge

Annually during May, June & September

Difficulty

Fitness

The UK's most sought after and demanding mountaineering expedition, undoubtedly the finest outing of its kind in the British Isles involving over 4000 metres of ascent.  To complete the traverse requires a high level of physical fitness; good all-round mountaineering skills; the ability to scramble in exposed situations as well as being able to climb up to VD standard

To that end we recommend that you attend our two day Scrambling Second Course as pre-training in order for you to familiarise yourself with the scrambling skills required to undertake the traverse, as well as getting a better understanding for the level of fitness demanded of a sucessful one or two day traverse

Due to the popularity of our Cuillin package Contour undertakes three traverses every year in late May/June as well as an additional traverse during September.  The two-day traverse programme takes the following format:

If you'd like to opt for a one day traverse then we modify the five day format to the itinerary given below:

Should we complete either the 1 or 2 day traverse ahead of schedule then we can spend any spare days scrambling and climbing ensuring you have the opportunity to see more of the Cuillins, its surrounding mountains and coastal crags

Everything went like clockwork (Quote at the end of a one day traverse, on the summit of Sgurr nan Gillean)

The UK's most sought after mountaineering route, akin to the Alps minus the altitude. The combination of demanding terrain and complex route finding, complemented by superb views makes for an unforgettable experience
